Gorilla Trekking Safari in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
Overview
Uganda is known for having half the World’s endangered mountain gorilla population; thus, every nature-loving tourist desire to see or encounter these humble giants. Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park in Uganda, therefore, stands out as the best place to do this, as the park not only protects half the World’s population with several habituated groups for eco-friendly tourism. But it is also a birdwatcher’s paradise with 350 species recorded, including many Albertine Rift endemics.
Therefore on this Gorilla Tracking Safari, we take you on a worthwhile adventure through the thick misty jungles of Africa’s most diverse and near virgin forest, the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, for an unforgettable trekking experience of the endangered Mountain Gorillas.
Itinerary
Download ItineraryUpon arrival at Entebbe International Airport or your hotel in Entebbe/Kampala, you will be
warmly welcomed by an English-speaking guide. For the former, you will be transferred to your
hotel, where we will brief you about the safari. Our guide may also acquaint you with your new
location with a visit to the town, local Zoo, Botanical gardens, and some places of convenience
in case you are not too exhausted from your long flight.
Also, depending on the arrival time, you are advised to have your money changed to the local
currency on this day to ease any monetary transactions you may need to make.

Early departure from Entebbe/Kampala and proceed southwest. The first stopover will be at the Equator, where we will have an opportunity to stand in 2 hemispheres at the same time and probably have a cup of coffee. The drive then takes us through lush savannah grasslands with scattered homesteads, large banana plantations, and sights of herds of Long-horned Ankole cattle. After that, we ascend into the Kigezi highlands with terraced farming and mountain scenery into Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.
Driving time: ±7 hours
Budget Accommodation: Buhoma community Rest camp or Wagtail Eco-safari camp.
Luxury Accommodation: Silverback lodge, Buhoma lodge, or Lake Kitandara Tented camp
With an early rise and an early breakfast, we will head to the briefing point at the park headquarters, where you will be briefed about the dos’ and don’ts while in the forest with the Gentle Giants. You will be provided with walking sticks and are also advised to carry your packed lunch and enough drinking water with you as you embark on this gorilla trekking experience. With a close to human DNA of 94%, getting close or staring into the pondering eyes of the endangered mountain Gorillas remains an unforgettable and an overwhelmingly incredible experience in one’s life.
At the end of the Gorilla trekking experience, we drive back to the lodge, relax, dine, and stay overnight
On our drive back to Kampala, we will have a stopover at the Mpigi Royal Drum Makers. Here we get to watch the ceremonial drums being handcrafted using local methods passed down from previous generations.
After which, we again embark on our journey back to Kampala. Arrival in Kampala will be in the late afternoon.
